Shopping Tours

There’s no denying our love for malls. If we didn’t know any better, we’d say its the number one hangout spot for Egyptians. Did you know that there’s at least one mall in every district of Cairo? We took a long look at the malls in Cairo and came up with 10 special malls that deserve to be recognized as the best in the capital. Without further ado, here are the top 10 malls in Cairo.

Mall of Egypt

The all-new glistening Mall of Egypt features Egypt’s first (and so far only) indoor snow park. You’ll also find a clean and well-maintained cinema complex featuring 21 screens. The food court has a good selection of food outlets boasting many of the expected local and international chains. From a shopping perspective, there’s a wide variety of shops including many major brands from around the world. But since it’s a new mall, many of the shops are yet to open (as of summer 2017). The early signs are great, and we’re in awe with the grandness of it all. Only time will tell if Mall of Egypt can maintain its ridiculously high standards and cling on to the top spot.

Mall of Arabia

Covering this mall in a day is probably out of the question as you’ll need a few days to walk around the whole place. Yes, it’s that big! So we recommend wearing your walking shoes if you plan to visit. Even the planned Mall of Egypt won’t steal steal the title of “Cairo’s biggest mall” from this monster. Mall of Arabia caters to everyone’s needs and boasts some of the world’s biggest brands including, but not limited to, Zara, Virgin, Timberland, GAP, Centrepoint, LC Waikiki, and Mango. There’s a Spinny’s hypermarket for groceries, a cinema multiplex, and a huge number of cafes and restaurants. Good things don’t always have to come in small packages…

Cairo Festival City Mall

One of the local favourites to popup in recent times, Cairo Festival City Mall is another grand venue made for the masses. Located at the 5th Settlement in the East of Cairo, the mall hosts the likes of Carrefour, Centrepoint, Debenhams, H&M, Marks & Spencer and Zara. But what makes Cairo Festival City stand out from the rest of the malls in Cairo is that it’s home to the only IKEA store in Egypt.

When Citystars first opened, Egyptians were blown away by the overall quality of the mall, and the variety of shops and restaurants on offer. Managing to maintain this quality and diversity of shops for all these years is why Citystars is on this list. Unfortunately, this is one of the more confusing malls in Cairo to navigate but it’s still a great place for families, couples and friends to eat out or go shopping. There’s a lot of brands, including Victoria’s Secret, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, Cartier, Longchamp, H&M, Marks & Spencer, and Mango.

Downtown Katameya

Downtown Katameya is a superb mall with a lot of outdoor features and pedestrian streets. The entire mall transports you far away from the hustle and bustle of Cairo. There’s an excellent mix of shops, restaurants and cafes to please everyone. Downtown Katameya always has something going on with annual and seasonal events. Highly recommended!

The First Mall

the first mall

Chic. Fancy. Luxury. Those are a few words to describe what The First Mall is all about. Here you’ll find a number of the finest watch and jewellery stores in Cairo, including Tiffany & Co, Rolex, Omega, Bvlgari, Mont Blanc, and Egypt’s very own Azza Fahmy. Located at Giza’s Four Seasons Hotel, the First Mall is also home to a number of fashion brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Paul & Shark, EGO and Emporio Armani.

Not the biggest or busiest of the malls in Cairo, but definitely the most charming. There is a slight air of luxury about Galleria40 but it’s not trying to push that aspect as much as The First Mall. The great thing about Galleria40 is the perfect balance of shops, cafes and restaurants. You won’t find too many fashion retailers, or too many restaurants. They’ve got the formula dead on. Let’s hope they stick to it as they grow with time.

Dandy Mega Mall

Once upon a time, Dandy Mall was the go-to destination for shopping along with Citystars. But whilst Citystars is able to stand the test of time, Dandy Mall hasn’t been able to replicate it’s counterpart’s success. Still, it has enough going for it to proudly claim a spot on our top 10 list of malls in Cairo. Apart from a very popular branch of H&M, Dandy Mall is also home to Toys ‘R’ Us, Carrefour, Victoria’s Secret, Homecentre, and Tradeline to name a few.

Designopolis is a breath of fresh air from the typical malls around Cairo. It is located on the Cairo-Alex Desert Road and focuses purely on design & lifestyle. Designopolis hosts the likes of Roche Bobois, La Maison & Co, and BoConcept amongst others. You’ll find pretty much all the stores you need to furnish your home or office. We love how they stuck to their design niche and included art galleries and antique stores too. It’s a venue that’s packaged in a modern way, and designed to promote creativity. We were glad to find out about the regular markets this mall hosts to support the local community. Good job, Designopolis.

Arkan Plaza

Arkan is not really a shopper’s paradise. And technically speaking, it’s more of a mixed-use development rather than a mall. But let’s not get nit-picky. Us Egyptians categorize Arkan as a mall. They have a few retail stores but it’s their mix of cafes, restaurants and bars that earns Arkan a spot on our list. It’s a foodie’s paradise, and a great place to go for a meal or a drink (or two) on weekends. Arkan is home to Le Pacha 1901, Gigi Bar, Crave, Maison Thomas, Mince, and Charwood’s to name a few. Not to mention, the strip that runs between the two buildings where the restaurants are, is quite beautiful, especially in the evening.
